About Cedarwood

Bear Chairs are made of western red cedar, a type of wood that is exceptionally weather-resistant.

Cedar wood is durable, strong and beautiful. In addition, aromatic – naturally insect repellent – lightweight but strong. As a result, you can easily lift, shift or move your Bear Chair. Cedar is less likely to crack and warp than chemically- or pressure-treated, soaked wood. Western red cedar contains high levels of oily substances that act as preservatives. Cedar stays cool – does not absorb much heat, so even on hot days your cedar furniture will stay cool to the touch.

Aesthetically, cedar looks better than plastic or plastic – and when it comes to environmental performance, cedar is superior to synthetic products in every way and, unlike chemically treated wood, plastic or composite, is renewable and biodegradable.

Bear Chairs are made from trees from ecologically managed forests subject to controlled harvesting and reforestation programs. For every tree felled, 25 new seedlings are planted.

Since 1988, Bear Chairs have been imported and distributed in Europe by Bear Chair Europe (see ‘Contact’)

Finally, we would like to mention that only ‘clear cedar’ is used to make Bear Chairs. Dried in the right way and the right time as opposed to so-called counterfeit Bear Chairs where often for cost-saving reasons the time is not taken to make freshly cut cedar professionally ready for use. Moreover, counterfeit products often use “loot wood”.
